Biography

Francisca Aires Mateus (Lisbon, 1992). BA in Painting by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, PT (2015), MA in Fine Art Media by the Slade School of Fine Art - University College London, UK (2017). Post-Graduation in Sound Art by the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, PT (2020). Licentiate Degree in Violin by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, UK (2014).

A Calouste Gulbenkian Scholar in 2016, Aires Mateus was one of the recipients of the Arte Jovem Award, Carpe Diem - Arte & Pesquisa, in the same year. She was a scholar at the Hong Kong Baptist University in 2018. In 2019 she was a finalist of the Sonae Media Art Awards.

She exhibits regularly since 2015, having also developed various curatorial and production projects such as “São Roque”, London and “Casa da Dona Laura”, Lisbon, supported by Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation
